10 Ideas for National Wear Red Day

Exactly 10 years ago the American Heart Association started what is known as National Wear Red Day to raise awareness of the #1 killer of women worldwide. Heart disease kills one in three women annually, that’s more than all forms of cancer combined. Despite this, studies show that only one in five women are aware of just how threatening heart disease is. That’s why women wear red on February 7th, to help raise awareness of heart disease prevention and treatment.

Wearing red is an easy and fun way to help spread awareness and there are a lot of different ways you can show your support! Check out some of the ways you can show your support for heart disease awareness:

  • Rock a red dress. Although not thought of as much as a little black dress, a little red dress can be a fun way to get into the spirit of the day.
  • Carry a red handbag. A red handbag is a great accent piece that will make your outfit pop and it will grab the attention of all those around you.
  • Wear red casually. Nationally Wear Red Day is on casual Friday! You don’t have to support the cause formally. Wear a plaid button up or a red cardigan with jeans.
  • It’s chilly! Sport a red coat. The winter months call for warm attire, so wearing a red coat or scarf is a great way to stay warm and raise awareness.
  • Be bold in your red top. A classy red blouse will look great over a pencil skirt and under a blazer. Dress it up with heels or down with jeans and flats.
  • This is the perfect day to wear those amazing red pants. Red colored skinny jeans or cords are fun and fresh, and they’re the perfect way to voice the cause.
  • Accent your look with red jewelry. For those who are not fans of red, or who just have red jewelry already on hand, accenting your outfit with red jewelry is an easy way to make your outfit pop.
  • Get a red nail manicure. Vibrant nail polish is a great way to grab attention, especially when it’s a strong red color.
  • Show your support with red shoes. Shoes can say a lot about a person, and wearing red shoes will scream it’s time to raise awareness.
  • Red lips are always in style. Red lips are bold and proud, and so is the spirit of National Wear Red Day.
  • However you chose to get into the spirit of National Wear Red Day don’t forget to have some fun with it! This is the 10th birthday of national wear red day, so go BIG! No matter how you choose to wear red, you’ll be helping to raise awareness for a devastating disease that takes away our mothers and daughters. Wear red and show your support in the effort to defeat heart disease in women.
